this functions as an ongoing answer to bogus poetry’s recent posting of favorite videos. I think it’s a brilliant idea and I’ll be doing the same for awhile as I’ve mostly only capacity for cut n’ paste for now. Unca Jesse often has excellent musical offerings that aren’t necessarily “Music Video” on display regularly in his shed behind the house there, that I love to discover. Both are found under the “Flair” link if you’re looking for more ways to enjoywaste some more time.
I begin my video posting copycat response-o-rama with a little nod to the “dad dancing at the wedding” moments found in many a Nick Cave video. Here, it’s taken to high art at about 2:25 and absolves all bad NC&TBS dances from videos past. Oh how I adore this video. There are 2 Nick Cave vids that top out above this for me in the faves category, but if we’re thinking of bad wedding dance sequences, this takes it and breaks it and recreates it oh yeah oh oh oh oh yeah oh and brings it straight into my arms.

Nice to see Jarvis Cocker from Pulp in the video there, truly carrying the flame for dad at a wedding style dancing throughout his career.
Two that top this? OK I’m going to have a shot in the dark and go for Babe I’m On Fire (full 17 minute version) and Red Right Hand.
I have a couple of back up curveballs if those aren’t the ones…

You’ll need to throw those curveballs believe it or not….
Now I’ll keep you guessing.

Well in that case, could it be Where The Wild Roses Grow?
And maybe Loverman with the hypnotism?
Note that I’ve deliberately and perhaps foolishly chosen not to take the clue at the end of your post.
But tell me it’s not The Weeping Song. With the boat? And Blixa’s feathered mullet haircut? Surely not?
If it’s something with the Birthday Party then I call foul as it clearly a trick question.
*Personally I’ve always admired Stagger Lee. It takes a lot of balls to wear a pink T-shirt like that!

Oh god that weeping song video is truly a sad testament to the mistakes of 80s hair fashion to be certain. But how can you not love the simplicity of the fake rocking boat to nowhere?
You’d think it would be Wild Roses but I’m more a Johnny Cash “Delia’s Gone” sort of gal when it comes to killing women in videos.
I’d thought to put this in another post, but I’m considering that doing the Nick Cave love fest here in “comments” may be easier on my vast army of readers who aren’t Nick Cave fans…
And so…Nick Cave Video Digest…
Well you know how it is, it’s Nick Cave so one has to love every video mentioned, even the passionately bad things have their merit.
But in truth, my all time favorite Nick Cave video features him in a very minor way and has little to do with MTV.
It’s the combination of lyrics and images that give the song more depth than any song with “love” in the title usually has on its own. The emptying location, the thing that’s just happened or perhaps the realization of the mistake and running after the person leaving the table, the bed, whatever behind to get them back… Me and my love of the empty space are completely fulfilled by this testament to the plea, petition, and a kind of prayer:
Love Letter:

Number two and nearly in a dead heat is … As I Sat Sadly By Her Side. We have more actual Nick Cave face featured and a marriage of that lounge element I love so well and my god the rest of it just comes together.

One might question my Cave-iness because these are all so similar in era. Instead, I believe it’s that the quality of the music, the lyric, and the moving images combined to strengthen the entire point of the song to begin with in these particular cases.
We will always have Army of Lovers to guide our way if you disagree with my assessment. And Stagger Lee because the pink shirt alone is worth nod.

last time i listened to Nick Cave i got pretty spooked. of course it was my own fault for making a collection of all his most grim material and then putting it on while driving I-5 at night. i still haven’t picked up any of his newer recordings, which i’ve heard are really good.
